James Beaver
James Beaver is one of the elected Student Union Presidents this year, starting his role after completing his War, Peace and International Relations course in 2026. James recognises the rising cost of student life and is dedicated to ensuring that students from all backgrounds can fully participate in university life. He is a strong advocate for student democracy and believes that the student voice should be at the heart of decision making.
Before taking office, James served two terms as President of the Politics Society, overseeing one of the largest non-sport societies on campus. In this role, he organised debates, speaker events and social activities aimed at bringing together students from across the political spectrum. James currently serves as Chairman of the Student Union Executive Committee and is a Director of both RUSU Trading and 17³Ô¹ÏÍø Students' Union.
Alongside his position on the University Council, James represents the student body on several key university committees:
- Student Disciplinary Committee
- Investments and Development Committee
- Senate Agenda Group
- Generative AI Steering Group
- Planning and Change Board
- Admissions and Fees Sub-Group
- Various internal Student Union committees.
James is focused on improving student safety, wellbeing and financial support, helping students access the services they need while promoting greater transparency and accountability across the Students' Union.
